Wiring harness installation tips

Colors (in general):
black is ground
pink is keyswitched power
orange is full time power
EXCEPION: The dataline to the diagnostics module is also orange.
EXCEPION: Tan is sometimes ground.

In these pages,
B+, "battery power", and "full time power" mean the same thing "keyswitched power," and "hot in run" mean the same thing.

Use a test light to find key-switched
and full time power at the fuse box.

Connecting the ignition signal module and the vehicle speed sensor module (VSS module)

Each module needs power(red) and ground(black). VSS module uses yellow as input and orange as out. Ignition module uses green as input, brown as output. Note: don't crimp the pink power lead yet, add a lead to the fuel pump relay here.

Conneting the fuel pump relay

The relay runs the pump for start up, then the oil pressure switch takes over. The tan lead to the ECU senses the power to the fuel pump. Run a lead with an inline 15 amp fuse to battery power.

An alternate method is to run the pump by keyswitched power, and use a safety shut off switch in line.

Connecting the starter signal wire

Single purple wire goes to the starter solenoid.
Also shown: power for the fuel pump relay.

Connecting the sensors and the ECU

part
Two multipin connectors plug into the ECU.

Connect temperature sensor to the two terminal plug with yellow and black wires.

Connect the injectors to either injector plug, connect the Idle Air Controller (IAC) to it's 4 terminal connector, Connect the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)to the black 3 terminal connector, and the Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor (MAP) to the green connector.

The oxygen sensor has only one wire, and a one terminal connector.

The oil pressure switch can be connected either way. Orange is power, tan goes to the pump.

Connecting the diagnostic module

The diagnostic module has wires with colors matching the harness, except without stripe on the brown and the white wires.

Installing the eprom

Remove Eprom from ECU

Pry apart carrier so eprom legs are released. Eprom will come out one side some, then the other, then push it out from the back Sometimes the tip of a knife can be helpful to free the legs

Put new eprom in carrier. Note notch positions. Legs should be back against the carrier when installed properly. Re-install in ECU.
